RCAWD & Boom Racing present Melbourne Comp Crawlers’ ROUND 3 crawl meet for 2024! Once again, a bunch of us like-minded hobbyists will be enjoying some time on the rocks with our crawlers. You’re welcome to join us to run some courses and just hang out down in Mt Martha in mid-June.

** As always, your safety is your responsibility! **

We’ll be on public land and just driving toy trucks together. This is not any kind of official event. Rocks can be slippery. It’ll be cold and possibly wet. If you have a child and/or pet with you, their supervision and safety is completely your responsibility. Please be careful!

SPONSORS

Club sponsor RCAWD comes bearing gifts in the form of more prizes! If you’re building a rig, check them out here. Browse and buy after following that link to support MCC, which is run as a not-for-profit incorporated club. Also, get 5% off with this code at checkout: MCC5 . Thanks RCAWD!

Now also sponsoring our club is Asia Tees and Boom Racing. ATees is an industry stalwart and comprehensively-stocked online hobby store based in Hong Kong. We’ve used them for years and love their range and service. Boom Racing, meanwhile, makes some of the best scale crawler models and accessories money can buy. Check them out!

WHEN

Sunday, 16 June 2024, 09:00-16:00 (end time may vary, pending numbers)

WHERE

The cliffs above Dromana Bay, My Martha. Roughly opposite the Ian Rd intersection.

Set your GPS to 290 Esplanade, Mount Martha VIC 3934 and you’ll be in the right stretch of road on C783/Esplanade – see below.

PARKING

Along/around the indicated yellow lines on the image above. We’ve chosen winter for this comp spot because parking in summer would be a no-go with all the tourists! The township is much quieter this time of year, so plan to park on one of the many gravel sidings (indicated in yellow, above) and follow one of the paths onto the rock area from there. We’ll have a sign out to help you find us.

TOILETS & FOOD

There are no toilets directly onsite. Nearest public toilet is here: 465 Esplanade, Mount Martha VIC 3934 (and there are several others over the next half km up the road).

Cafes and servos are all within a few mins’ drive.

NOTES

  • The cliffs are often windy. There’s no shade nor rain cover here.
  • Dress for a windy day on the rocks. Bring drinking water.
  • We’ll still run some classes if it’s rainy, but if it’s a heavy rain day we’ll probably cancel.
  • Boots or closed shoes are advisable. Recommend you don’t bring your dog.
  • Shops are a few minutes away by car for coffee, lunch, etc.
  • Rules and Build Guidance on our FB group.
  • There are no bins here. Please carry out what you carry in.
  • Lastly, we’re in a public area. We’ll have signage up for the club. Please be mindful of the locals’ expectation of peace and driveway access when parking on nearby streets, especially early in the morning.

COST $0

CLASSES & SCHEDULE

We’ll be running 6 classes. As it’s worked well previously, we’re going to try for all-day courses for all classes. A few of us will set-up at dawn, mark the courses, and then you can find a friend or two and run together and score each other over the day. No stress, no rush, no disappointment!

Briefing will be at 9am. Awards and prizes will be 3pm-ish, pending numbers.

Here’s what you need to do when you arrive:

  1. Find the MCC table and complete a waiver form. This is required to participate in this event, even if you’ve filled one in before.
  2. Get your car/s to the table to have them checked and cleared to run.
  3. Find a person or people to score your runs. The aim is to take turns driving and scoring with each other/your group.l We’ll be using crawlerresults.com. Site password will be at the table.
  4. Run your car/s in the appropriate courses for your class. Have fun!

All classes will have 5 courses to run. They’ll be marked clearly from #1 to #5. Be sure to match this with your scoring on crawlerresults.com when doing your runs.

Here’s how we’ll approach the classes. 10 courses total will be set:

  • 5 Courses for Tuff Truck, Sporty and Pro MOA. These will be labelled A to E and are wider than the other 5 courses.
  • 5 Courses for P/Scale, Scale-1 and Mini 1.9
  • We’ll have some ‘C1’ gate markers on the P/Scale courses, making these 5x courses appropriate for both P/Scale and also Mini 1.9 and Scale-1 classes simultaneously.
  • Mini & Scale-1 (aka. Class 1 or C1) will use C1 gates wherever they’re present. Performance Scale will use the same course, but not through C1 gates; only through the numbered gates.

** GROUP RIG PHOTO AND PRIZES IN LATE AFTERNOON **

More info on Classes: https://melbournecompcrawlers.com.au/2023/02/08/wrcca-ruleset-a-quick-primer/

With all courses set for the day, you should be free to run whatever you’ve got in whatever order you like, whenever you like. Come back to the table or find the MCC guys (Craig, Martin, Simon, Toby, Adam) if you need a hand, directions, first aid, life advice or to discuss the merits of Lexan vs styrene for Scale-1 builds. If you’re in doubt about what class your rig/s will suit, ask in the FB group here and/or just turn up on the day. We’ll work it out! 🙂
